Deploy 3rd party applications
With Gearlinx ZERO you can deploy OCI compatible containerized applications, or virtual machines to any of your NR4400 devices, in real-time and at scale. Containers and virtual machines can also take advantage of the NR disk volume support to store additional applications, scripts, and tools.
Each NR platform supports:
- Private or public image repositories
- OCI compliant container runtime (using podman)
- Virtual machines (QEMU KVM, with support for cloud-init for configuration)
- Persistent volumes on the built-in SSD
ZERO gives you the added benefit of simplifying and centralizing this powerful feature over your entire fleet of devices.
Real-world examples of usage include:
- Running benchmark tooling (such as iperf) locally to verify network links are performing to their SLA
- Deploying local replicas of AAA services (OpenLDAP)
- Deploy local metrics and logging applications (Prometheus configured for remote-write/ Grafana Agent)
- Deploying custom applications, allowing compute at the edge.
With Gearlinx NR4400 series of products and ZERO there are no additional "add-on" licenses. Everything you need comes standard with Gearlinx products.
Because we support OCI containers with Gearlinx you have the maximum flexibility in the industry to immediately deploy time tested, secure and trusted containers without reinventing the wheel. Containers give you immediate scalability, portability and increased security to run applications you need where you need them.
