Improve Business Continuity with Duckfone™ Cellular Connectivity
The Duckfone™ is a commercial cellular gateway solution designed to provide cellular connectivity to enterprise, retail, branch, and remote locations. The Duckfone™ establishes a cellular 4G LTE connection and provides internet connectivity over the mobile network. The Duckfone has 5 main use cases:
- Primary WAN connectivity for IOT devices and other endpoints
- Secondary failover connectivity in the event of a network outage
- Extending existing network infrastructure with Internet connectivity
- Rural connectivity where wired connections are not available
- POTS line replacement
Primary WAN Connectivity
The Duckfone™ 4G LTE modem provides easy-to-install primary WAN connectivity to kiosks, POS systems, digital signage, ATM’s, lottery machines, industrial machines, and IoT devices for fail-safe connectivity to the Internet. With dual SIMs for failover between multiple carriers and Power over Ethernet, the Duckfone™ can be installed in the most difficult locations and provide the network reliability your business needs for its customers. The four serial ports can further extend the benefits of the Duckfone™ by providing cellular out-of-band management access to routers, switches, firewalls, and servers.
Secondary Failover Connectivity
In the retail industry, a network outage caused by a hardware failure, software issue, cyber-attack or human error, can severely limit your ability to conduct business and transact with your customers. In the event of a primary fixed line outage, such as a backhoe that digs up fiber outside the building, the Duckfone™ can provide instantaneous failover connectivity to keep the retail business up and operational so it can continue processing credit card payments. This scenario can be expanded to branch offices, healthcare, education, financial services, home offices or anywhere that internet connectivity is essential to business operations by eliminating downtime.
Extend Infrastructure Connectivity
The Duckfone™ can be used with existing remote office, branch office, distribution center, warehouse, network infrastructure already deployed. There is no need to replace existing routers, switches, firewalls or any other critical infrastructure in these locations. The Duckfone™ extends your network capabilities by seamlessly adding 4G LTE network connectivity to your existing terrestrial infrastructure.
Rural Internet Connectivity
In remote rural areas where wired internet connections are not available, the Duckfone™ cellular gateway can provide a reliable and cost-effective solution for internet connectivity. This is particularly useful in rural areas where internet service providers (ISPs) do not have the infrastructure in place for high-speed internet, are located far from the nearest internet source at a data center, and not affordable due to limited availability and competition.
POTS Line Replacement
AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile, and many other global carriers have started to increase prices on legacy POTS lines to encourage customers to migrate to lower cost 4G LTE and 5G cellular connectivity. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the United States announced in 2022 that the carriers are free to cease POTS line service to their customers. By switching from an analog solution to the Duckfone™, a company will eliminate a disruption of service, save money, experience better reliability, and ensure business continuity.

POE+ gives you flexibility and optimizes signal strength
The Duckfone™ is powered over Ethernet using POE+ to provide the most flexible power solution possible. Whether you are installing in a cabinet or data center where existing POE infrastructure may already be available, installing the Duckfone™ in a difficult to reach location, or a site survey recommends a location with better signal strength but lacks available power, using a power over ethernet injector to power your Duckfone™ provides both maximum installation agility and optimized performance.
Dual SIM gives you twice the reliability
Two SIM cards is always better than one. That is why the Duckfone™ standard design is Dual SIM cards, to ensure redundancy and resiliency in case the primary cellular network goes offline. Additional benefits include financial savings achieved by using the most cost-effective carrier for each connection, improved coverage in areas with weak signal strength, and greater flexibility of carrier choice. With auto-switching failover, there is also peace of mind Dual SIM multi-carrier support will ensure business continuity and maximum uptime for your business.
